On Tuesday, September 22, in Brussels, the Secretary-General of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Mr. Lounes Magramane, co-chaired the sixth session of Algerian-Belgian political consultations alongside his Belgian counterpart, Ms. Theodora Gentzis, Secretary-General of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, European Affairs and Development Cooperation.
The session provided an opportunity to review the state of Algerian-Belgian relations across their various dimensions and areas of focus. It also allowed for a discussion on ways to ensure the implementation of the outcomes of the visit to Brussels—held on March 31 and April 1—by Mr. Ahmed Attaf, Minister of State, Minister of Foreign Affairs, National Community Abroad, and African Affairs. These efforts aim to align with the positive momentum recently observed in bilateral relations and to leverage the significant potential possessed by both countries.
In this context, both sides emphasized the need to strengthen economic, investment, trade, and technical cooperation to meet shared ambitions, particularly in sectors such as energy, agriculture, the pharmaceutical industry, transport, port services, health, social security, education, and training. Emphasis was also placed on the importance of boosting trade exchanges and encouraging productive investments to further consolidate the existing economic partnership.
Furthermore, the consultations offered an opportunity to exchange views and analyses on various regional and international issues of common interest, notably developments in the Middle East—with a primary focus on the Palestinian cause—as well as the situation in the Sahel-Saharan region and Western Sahara.
