Attaf meets PM, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates of Palestine

ALGIERS -The Minister of Foreign Affairs and National Community Abroad, Ahmed Attaf, held talks with the Prime Minister, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates of Palestine, Mohammad Mustafa, at the Ministry's headquarters on Sunday

In a welcome speech, Attaf affirmed that the visit of Palestine’s FM “comes while the unfair and brutal Zionist aggression continues against Palestinians in the occupied Palestinian territories, particularly in the Gaza Strip.”

“The criminal nature and apparent and underlying plans of this aggression are now known to the entire international community. They all point toward the same goal: burying the Palestinian cause and hindering its national authentic project,” stressed Attaf.

“The escalation and provocations fuelled by Israeli settlement occupation on all front and several levels seek to divert the attention from the Palestinian cause, obscure its reality and exclude it completely from the international community's priorities,” assured the FM.

In the same token, “the President of the Republic, Abdelmadjid Tebboune has given firm instructions to seize the opportunity of Algeria’s presence in the Security Council to defend the Palestinian cause so that we assume the responsibility incumbent to us and we contribute, as much as me can, to mitigate the suffering of our brothers in the occupied Palestinian territories, particularly in the Gaza Strip,” stated Attaf.

“Our efforts within this key UN body are fully coordinated with our Palestinian brothers, other Arab brothers and all the geopolitical groups to which we belong, including the African and Islamic groups, and the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM),” stressed the Algerian top diplomat.

In fact, “the focus of these efforts is twofold. Firstly, they address cyclical priorities, which involve curbing Israeli aggression and its devastating aftermath. Secondly, they deal with non-cyclical priorities to preserve the foundations of the State of Palestine and mobilize further international support,” explained Attaf.

He recalled that “these priorities are at the heart of the recent important talks between President Abdelmadjid Tebboune and his brother, President Mahmoud Abbas, who tasked us with boosting bilateral coordination, in anticipation of the upcoming events related to the Palestinian cause within the UN in general and the Security Council in particular.”

During the talks, Palestine’s PM emphasized "the depth and privileged nature of relations between Algeria and Palestine,” praising Algeria's continued support for the Palestinian cause.

"We rely heavily on Algeria and its role, notably in the Security Council, and we are counting on its efforts to achieve the establishment of a free and independent Palestinian state,” he said, calling for "the crowning of Algeria's future efforts on behalf of the Palestinian cause with the major achievement of an independent Palestinian state.”

He also referred to efforts to enable the State of Palestine to attain full membership of the UN, which would be "a new step for the Palestinian cause, but certainly not the last.”

“We hope that the efforts you will undertake in the future, together with brothers and friends around the world, will culminate in the establishment of an independent Palestinian state,”
