Mr. Attaf Participates in the 166th ordinary session of the Council of the League of Arab States at Ministerial Level in Cairo

Mr. Ahmed Attaf, Minister of State, Minister of Foreign Affairs, National Community Abroad, and African Affairs, participated today in Cairo in the proceedings of the 166th ordinary session of the Council of the League of Arab States at the ministerial level, held on September 7, 2026.

The meeting, chaired by the sisterly Republic of Tunisia, discussed a range of issues on its agenda. Foremost among these were the latest developments regarding the Palestinian cause, the rapid developments in the Arab Gulf region amidst military escalation, and the tense situations in several Arab countries.

The Council also adopted a set of resolutions reflecting steadfast Arab positions on these various issues. These resolutions underscored the necessity of strengthening Arab solidarity and intensifying efforts to confront the challenges and crises facing the region, in addition to addressing and adopting decisions related to the functioning of the League’s General Secretariat.

During the session, the Minister of State delivered an address reaffirming Algeria’s unwavering stance in support of the Palestinian people and their just cause, as well as their legitimate and inalienable rights—chief among them the right to establish an independent, sovereign state within recognized borders, with Al-Quds Al-Sharif as its capital.

Mr. Ahmed Attaf also reiterated Algeria’s full solidarity with Arab countries subjected to aggression. He emphasized the need for a comprehensive approach to address the region's crises—one based on tackling root causes and prioritizing political solutions and dialogue—to ensure the restoration of security and stability while safeguarding the sovereignty, unity, and territorial integrity of Arab states. In a related context, the Minister of State emphasized the importance of advancing joint Arab action and enhancing its effectiveness, highlighting Algeria’s support for the process of reforming the League of Arab States and developing its working mechanisms. This aims to enable the League to play a more effective role in defending shared Arab interests and addressing the mounting challenges posed by rapid developments in the region.
