President Tebboune highlights Algeria, Rwanda’s commitment to peaceful conflict resolution

ALGIERS-The President of the Republic, Abdelmadjid Tebboune, highlighted on Tuesday, that both Algeria and Rwanda are committed to the principle of resolving conflicts peacefully and firmly oppose any foreign interference in African affairs.

In a joint press release with the President of Rwanda, Paul Kagame, following their talks at the Presidency of the Republic, the President of the Republic highlighted “the convergence of views between the two countries on several regional and international issues, as well as their commitment to the principle of peaceful conflict resolution and their rejection of foreign interference in the affairs of the African continent.”

The President of the Republic further noted that he had “rich” discussions with his Rwandan counterpart concerning several areas, including “political, security, and cultural cooperation, as well as mechanisms to promote trade exchanges between the two countries.”

“We exchanged views on the zones of tension and conflict in Africa and emphasized our support for the Sahrawi people and their right to self-determination through a free, regular, and fair referendum, in accordance with the decisions of international legality,” said the President of the Republic.

Regarding the Palestinian cause, “we expressed our deep concern about the situation in the Gaza Strip and stressed the need to immediately end the aggression perpetrated against the Palestinian people, ensure the delivery of humanitarian aid as quickly as possible, and uphold the right of the Palestinian people to establish their independent State on the 1967 borders with Al-Quds as its capital,” he said.

The President of the Republic also emphasized that his meeting with his Rwandan counterpart provided an opportunity to exchange views on the situation in eastern Democratic Republic of Congo.

“We reiterated our full support for ongoing efforts to achieve a comprehensive political solution,” he underscored.

The repercussions of the crisis in Sudan were also discussed, along with “the need to strengthen the African Union’s role so as to achieve the desired solution,” added the President of the Republic, who recalled the participation of 6,000 Rwandan army personnel in the peacekeeping mission in Sudan.

President Abdelmadjid Tebboune described the Rwandan President’s visit as a key opportunity to strengthen bilateral ties and continue the discussions initiated in December 2024 in Nouakchott (Mauritania), where it was agreed on “the need to activate and expand cooperation.”

“We had rich discussions covering areas of political, security, economic, and cultural cooperation, as well as the establishment of mechanisms to promote trade exchanges, including the Algerian-Rwandan Business Council, the organization of periodic meetings between economic operators of the two countries, and participation in economic fairs,” added the President of the Republic.
